Another great show for Liz Lund Eventing! Liz coached Janelle Johnson to a 2nd place finish in Beginner Novice and her mom Kristine Johnson held strong with a clean show jumping round to finish off one of her first shows!
Liz rode Juliette in her first Preliminary combined test and scored Juliette's best test to date wit ha 35! I guess the pony just needed more of a challenge. Once Juliette stepped in to the ring she realized she must step it up because the fences were bigger. She jumepd a fabulous round having only one rail come down at the last fence. Liz and Hannah did their first Advanced combined test and scored a respectable 37 in the dressage and jumped a double clean show jumping round! It was a great weekend yet again!

Otter Creek was nothing but a success! Congrats to Liz Lund & Lady Hannah B for finishing their first CIC2* in 2nd place with clean jumping rounds! Liz rode Juliette, Katy's pony in the Open Training and finished in 4th and plans on moving her up to Preliminary at Catalpa Horse Trials. Liz's student Maria Filsinger and her horse Pete won the Jr Training Division and Liz's other student Kelsie Holbrook and her horse Tess won the Jr Beginner Novice Division! It was a great success for Liz Lund Eventing and Trophy Hill! Next up is Carriage House Combined test at Carriage House farm in Hugo, MN on June 6th! Stay tuned!
Katy has started a new team sorting league and is looking forward to some fun rides and competition. Katy, Jack & Nate cleaned up with many awards from the last league!

INSTRUCTIONS
Hi everyone. What great weather to get us excited for this weekend! Unfortunately we have some riders with lame horses and riders with injuries! Bummer… however we had plenty of names on the waiting/substitute list to fill in the spots.
1)
A clarification regarding a question: you choose to ride 5 out of the 6 dates for the series. Although the paperwork stated this in one spot, another spot had a different statement that confused people. Again, $1500 covers 5 rides, or $300 each session for a semi private lesson in most instances, occasionally a group of three.
2)
Thank you to those of you that remembered your volunteer deposit check. For those of you that didn’t, please provide me with a check for your volunteer deposit before you ride. The purpose is to give you a financial incentive to volunteer. Many thanks to all of you that already have an incentive… this system is one that is used successfully in other sports. If at the end of the year you have completed your hours I rip the check up. If you have not volunteered, I cash the check.
3)
Potluck and FOOD : Jean Kunz has graciously offered either barn or house for the potluck. Please bring something to drink and something to share. Sherri W. has generously offered to bring sloppy joe on Saturday for lunch (yum yum.) If you want to sponsor lunch on Sunday let me know. Otherwise we will just feed Ralph.
4)
RALPH RE-INJURY- please be aware that Ralph re-injured his leg recently. He is in a lot of pain and can not put any weight on his leg. We will have a chair for him to sit on and put his leg up on. Anyone that sits in his chair will be shot. (OK, not literally, but you know what I mean.) Please make sure others that aren’t part of program are also considerate of him. Please listen, don’t talk and hold your questions until the end of the day. If you have multiple or lengthy questions save for the potluck.

We have stayed very active at the barn through the winter going off to team sorting competitions and jackpots. The cold hasn't stopped us from having fun! The horses have all been good and everyone trying not to get too sick of the winter weather...Liz comes home on the 23rd and will be ready to teach lessons starting immediately. There is a lot of planning being made for the 2010 show season, get in touch with Liz for more information on the calendar. eventrider@lizlund.com

Trophy Hill is all settled in for the winter and we are preparing for the coldest to come! We are looking forward to this Holiday season spending it with close friends and family. Katy has jumped head first into team sorting - going to practices, taking lessons, doing jackpots and competing. Nate attends team sorting competitions on the weekends and some practices during the week. Liz is heading off to Florida in January for a few months to continue her training and will be returning in mid-March. There are stalls available for winter boarding, please contact Liz at eventrider@lizlund.com for more details and information.
10.28.09
Trophy Hill has been preparing for the long winter ahead of us. Jumps have been moved indoors to prepare for a lot of gymnastic work this winter! Team sorting has started and Katy & Jack have headed to a new farm to play and learn with some new friends and cows. The season at Big Muddy starts later in the year. Katy made a successful sale of her newly purchases TB off the track, River-who now is off to a new happy home for some training.
We would like to welcome Eric Dierks back for a clinic on Friday, November 6th and still have openings available at a special fall discount of $100/ride. You can either ride in a group or a private lesson, please contact Katy for more information at kbloomquist@bloomquistlaw.com.
We would also like to announce it is time for the 2009 ANNUAL CHILI PARTY! It will be held November 7th starting at 7 p.m. in the Trophy Hill Farm indoor arena. Be sure to dress warm as the indoor is not heated but most importantly bring your best chili dish to share with all! This year we have decided to do different categories to include Traditional (red, white & green), Vegetarian and New Age. There will be prizes for each category. Be sure to come up with a name for your chili as voting will be anonymous.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the party and hope that you will join us for our upcoming clinics!

Liz Lund took her mount, Hannah, and Katy's pony, Juliette, to the Schweiss' Farm in Hector, MN on 8/10-11 to do an eventing clinic with Philippa Humphreys (www.pheventing.com). The clinic was very successful and Liz is feeling confident heading to Wayne DuPage.

Ralph Hill Eventing Clinic
As many of you know, Ralph Hill competed at Rolex for a historic three decades, starting with the World Championships on Sergeant Gilbert in 1978. Besides being an accomplished international level rider/trainer, he is an outstanding teacher. Ralph, along with a group of committed Minnesotans, established the original “Rider Development Program.” Through his encouragement, determination, guidance and teaching, the overall riding of Minnesotan eventers was elevated significantly, many going on to compete nationally at the upper levels! In 2007, Ralph suffered a very nasty fall with significant injuries. In true “Ralph fashion,” he is making a determined comeback. This event will consist of two days of private lessons and a fundraising breakfast on Sunday morning. You may choose to ride dressage or jumping. Weather/footing permitting, we have a sand outdoor, grass stadium on a hill, and cross country course which includes a water jump, bank complex and ditches. Bad weather/footing, we will be in the indoor arena. Also, mark your calendar for a clinic with group format at Pine Meadow Farm, Inc. on June 13-14, 2009.

Construction update …
GREAT work Bill, Nate and Doug. THANK YOU! Also thanks to Nanci and Tara for the painting!
The saddle racks are up! I took the opportunity, with Nate’s help, to organize the barn tonight. We needed to make space to get ready for the next phase, which is the finishing of wash stall, bathroom, feed room. As a wall is going up for the bathroom, feed room, we needed to get things out of there.

2007 Fundraiser Report
Trophy Hill Sport Horses,LLC reports results of fundraisers
Trophy Hill Farm of Cologne, MN had two fundraisers within the last month to benefit injured equestrian riders. The first benefit was on August 25th, 2007 for Ralph Hill. Ralph is an internationally known eventer, competing at the world championships at the Kentucky Horse Park in 1978. Ralph was a regular at Rolex and rode internationally up until his tragic accident this winter. Ralph was in a competition at Poplar Place, Georgia when apparently his horse hung a leg over a corner obstacle, causing Ralph to fall off. The safety team and paramedics used heroic efforts to keep Ralph alive after which he was airlifted to a local hospital. Ralph sustained multiple fractures and most significantly, a serious brain stem injury. After many months in hospitals, in and out of patient rehab, Ralph is continuing his recovery while living with his sister and family in Kentucky. More information on Ralph is available on www.carepages.com.
Over more than 15 years Ralph has been coming to Minnesota to teach local riders eventing skills. His clinics were always oversubscribed and much enjoyed, both for the learning and the gregarious commentary provided by Ralph throughout the clinic. Ralph has a talent for understanding the horse and motivating the rider.
The Ralph Hill benefit employed the talented assistance of “Flair Bartender” Chad Larson and a live auction (where many equestrians generously and spontaneously contributed items and dollars,) to raise $5,000.00. The donations were submitted to the Equestrian Aid Foundation for Ralph’s continued medical costs.
The second fundraiser was for a local rider/teacher, Mary (Heil) Schenck, of Heiland Hill Training Center in Jordan. Mary has dedicated her life to teaching kids and adults, and has been very supportive of the local Pony Clubs. In June of this year the floor gave way in Mary’s hay loft, causing her to fall through and across the stall below. Mary sustained multiple injuries including a fracture of her C-2 vertebrae. Thankfully, Mary is expected to eventually make a full recovery. Trophy Hill opened its stadium and cross country jumping courses for schooling. The benefit raised over $3,000.00.
Trophy Hill wants to thank the many volunteers that graciously supported both of these benefits with their time, talents and resources. Donations are always much appreciated, and for more information readers can contact Katy Bloomquist Holub at kbloomquist@earthlink.net. We wish both riders a speedy and full recovery.
